I have nothing against many of the new series that are out and about in the Manga world. Most of them are wonderful, if not imaginative in finding new ways to walk over already heavily used story lines. Though that is something any medium can expect to contend with. I just recently got into watching the anime series of Full Moon (or Furu Mūn o Sagashite). I discovered it after I signed up for a Hulu account last week. Within watching only a few episodes, I found myself instantly hooked on this series. Although I always seem to have an interest in anime and manga that features musicians or models, I really like this particular story because of what the main character is going through.

I already ranted, or at least explained why anime, or manga will get subtle changes depending on the market. However there is one thing that bothers me to no end. This is when they nearly re-create and utterly alter a series into a bastardized half re-telling of the story. Read more about Sometimes they go too far.

It's hard to not notice at times when a scene in an anime, or in an English ( inserts other languages here) printing of a manga series that the dialog and overall text, or even imagery can be utterly utterly redone and quite different than what is presented in the original. Is this done by greedy money grabbing evil corporations winging half of the work without bothering to understand what the original work is? Or is it perhaps something entirely different. Zettai Kareshi, or Absolute Boyfriend, is one of those perfect romance manga that never ceases to amaze me. I will never forget the first time I had stumbled upon this gem a few years ago while I was in Borders. Initially, I only bought the first book because I wanted to see if I would be interested in the story. However, within reading the few chapters, I found myself inevitably hooked on the entire series. Another one of those series with characters that are easy to relate to, I became addicted to discovering what would happen at the end.

While many Manga series rely on the comical characters to break tension, or the amazingly gorgeous ones to captivate their otaku fan base- there is a point where a character gets one trait exaggerated and blown out of proportion. Poor Rangiku is one such victim. The buxom vice captain of division 10. Her pretty face, and big...er...heart has won over many fans. The issue comes by the fact that as the series Bleach expanded beyond Shonen and onto TV and film Ran...well...she became an idiot. Read more about Stupid Girl
One of my favorite manga series of all time would have to be Ouran High School Host Club. The series follows the story of Haruhi Fujioka, a young girl whose life becomes intertwined with a host club after breaking a vase. While searching for a peaceful place to study, Haruhi discovers the music room where the host club performs their services to their female clients. However, in a clumsy moment, she accidently breaks an antique vase and ends up owing money to club. Since she doesn't have enough money to pay for the vase itself, she has to lend her skills and work for the club to help pay off her debt. As time progresses, her interactions with the host club also turns into several lifelong friendships with the other characters.

If you are a fan of Miyazaki films and you haven’t seen Princess Mononoke yet, you must rent it immediately. It’s definitely not for children; think Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind—but even more brutal—rather than Ponyo or My Neighbor Totoro. That said, if you can stomach said violence, it’s an amazing movie—so amazing, in fact, that we just named our daughter’s new kitten Princess Mononoke (Noke for short)!
Princess Mononoke is another one of Miyazaki’s tales about how the humans corrupt the world through industrialization and waste. In this case, we are presented with a young man who lives in a very rural village with its own traditions and customs who is sent off on a quest to break a curse he gets stuck with just by saving his village. During his quest, he encounters Princess Mononoke, a girl raised by wolves who attempts to stop the world from industrializing—and who does some pretty earthy, and even primal, activities in her crusade.
