One of my favorite manga series of all time would have to be Ouran High School Host Club. The series follows the story of Haruhi Fujioka, a young girl whose life becomes intertwined with a host club after breaking a vase. While searching for a peaceful place to study, Haruhi discovers the music room where the host club performs their services to their female clients. However, in a clumsy moment, she accidently breaks an antique vase and ends up owing money to club. Since she doesn't have enough money to pay for the vase itself, she has to lend her skills and work for the club to help pay off her debt. As time progresses, her interactions with the host club also turns into several lifelong friendships with the other characters.
In my opinion, one of the reasons that this series is so enjoyable is because the characters are very easy to relate to. Despite the satire and comedy of the general plots and storyline, each character is also able to exhibit legitimate emotions that almost any reader can relate to, whether it's the embarrassment of being considered the commoner in the group or having that one charming friend that's so eccentric, they can hardly be described -- everyone has their own Haruhi or Tamaki in their own group of friends.
As my entries in this blog continues, I am likely to refer to this particular series again in the future; in fact, I'd like to write an entry focusing on the personalities of each character at some point. But for now, I am going to go finish reading another favorite title - Absolute Boyfriend. What are some of your favorite series?
